Regimen Books Christian Classics publishes high-quality texts of important books. Each includes an informative, insightful introduction written today by an expert. No book has done a better or more vivid job of describing the nature of Heaven and Hell than Richard Baxter’s classic work. It explains the wonderful nature of Heaven as a result of the Presence of God. Heaven begins, Baxter says, while we still are living on Earth if we have a close spiritual communion with God. One reason that suffering in Hell is so excruciatingly terrible is because those who must endure it for eternity still have the capacity for memory — making them aware that they had the opportunity to accept God’s saving Grace but chose not to do so. Originally published in 1650, the book quickly gained a reputation it has never lost. Prior to 1900, at least eighty editions had been published in English, and it has never been out of print since. Other than the Bible, perhaps no book has done more than The Saints’ Everlasting Rest in persuading people to seek God and to repent. This classic is just as compelling today as when it was first published. "A treatise of the blessed state of the saints, in their enjoyment of God in glory wherein is shown its excellency and certainty, the misery of those who lose it, the way to attain it, and assurance of it, and how to live in the continual delightful foretastes of it, by the help of meditation. I'm not one to bash print on demand publishing, having tried my hand at it myself, but it's obvious that this is a print on demand work, and that only a mediocre effort has gone into the formatting of the book. I was annoyed by the typos, poor formatting, lack of a date of publication (or any publisher information whatsoever), and other such glaring, novice mistakes.Baxter gets 5 stars, the publisher here is the one getting 2 stars. Beware low quality copies of older copyright-free works. Be sure to "look inside" the book to ensure quality formatting, etc.

The Saints' Everlasting Rest Regimen Books Christian Classics Richard Baxter Joanne Stuart Sloan 9781885219633 Books Reviews
The most intimate portrait of Jesus Christ I have ever read. Written in the 1600's I believe so the linguistics are a bit different than I am used too but I still enjoyed this immensely.
This book (and preacher) is outstanding! The fact that it has been in print for over 350 years gives one a clue! I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a clear picture of Heaven and Hell!
This is a deep read so take your time. I wish the whole body of Christ would read this and live it. Gives scary take on the unsaved. I never think about that much but Baxter changed that. You won't regret reading this.
I now have my Great Grandfather's Book, published in 1835. There are 16 chapters. The book measures 3 x 5 inches, an inch thick. The print is very small, letters being 2 milometers tall, give another milometer for the extended letters. There are 256 pages. This book I purchased has ONLY seven chapters. So, this book is a good beginning, but I will search for a complete book to hold, and easily read.
Baxter's desire is to encourage the reader to work fervently toward the saint's everlasting rest. He wants the reader to pray, to meditate, to share about heaven. The main tool he wants to the reader to use is meditation. He cajoles, he encourages, he advises the reader how to meditate upon heaven and Christ. The author is great at using allusions in scripture to make his point. He uses some guilt in the earlier chapters, but mainly he describes heaven in such glorious terms, he makes the reader feel like a fool if he is not pursuing the saints' rest with every fiber of his being.
In summary, the book has a great pastoral tone. I felt like Baxter is fully concerned that the reader pursue this worthy goal at all costs.
I'm left speechless! Saints Everlasting Rest is a book whose warnings of hell are savage and whose portraits of heaven are exquisite! God willing, I will read Saint's Everlasting Rest again and again in my remaining time in this world!
I love to read the Puritans but have not read much of Richard Baxter until now. This book is still on my nightstand and I have about two more chapters to go. I must say that I'm really enjoying Baxter's style. This is straightforward, challenging, convicting, and at times exhilarating! I'm sure that if you follow Baxter's advice in this book, it will change your life; in fact, that was his intention when he wrote it. This book is worth every minute you will spend reading it. I'm going to keep it with a few others that I read again and again. It's really that good.
